We sit down with Daniel Oreta, CEO of Intrepid, to talk about the company’s insights on IoT Technology and system integration. Intrepid is one of the original collaborators and system integrators of MobiusFlow technology. They’re known for their delivery approach when building enterprise-level solutions focused on data management and data visualisation.
Let’s kick things off by telling us more about your company.
o We’re a technology professional services company founded in the United Kingdom and have expanded globally to both mainland Europe and North America. We help our clients embrace technology, empowering them to achieve their desired business outcomes through innovative technology solutions, technical advice, development skills, and IT support. No matter where our clients are on their journey, we have a solution to help them ensure they’re getting the most out of technology. We’re particularly proud of our advisory services offerings where we’ve helped many businesses overcome their technology challenges and develop IT strategies that seamlessly align with their business objectives. We’re honoured to be the fractional Chief Technology Officer for several companies, where we act as ongoing Technology Advisors.
What differentiates you from other technology solution providers and integrators?
Our decades of experience in a variety of different technologies is one of our greatest strengths. Most of our team grew up in the fast-paced financial services IT world and have built large complex enterprise-level solutions for mission-critical business outcomes. We know the best way to integrate technology into coherent and effective solutions that use best-in-class practices, architectures, and tools.
However, it’s our delivery approach that really sets us apart from others. We’ve designed a delivery approach centred around collaboration and transparency, which we believe builds a high degree of trust with our clients. If they trust that we understand their desired outcomes, it inherently builds confidence with them that the solution we build will meet their outcomes too. Trust and confidence with clients are incredibly important for building long-lasting client relationships and a stellar reputation.
You’ve mentioned the word ‘outcome’ several times in your approach. Why is the “outcome” so important?
oThe “outcome” or purpose of the project is often the first thing that gets lost or twisted over time. People forget “why” they’re delivering the technology solution and this often leads to delivery problems. Missing deadlines, mismatched expectations, and wasted money are just some of the problems when people forget the desired outcomes. We’ve made the “outcome” the heart of our delivery approach to ensure that it's clear to everyone. From business stakeholders to technical developers, we ensure everyone understands and agrees upfront on the desired “outcome” of the solution and we consistently remind everyone how every action we take must progress towards that during delivery. We have experienced immense success with this approach, particularly with setting and maintaining delivery expectations with our clients.
Tell us about your experience with IoT Technology and MobiusFlow.
We’ve been working with the MobiusFlow team since its inception. We were one of the first integrators along with IA Connects to apply the MobiusFlow technology to a real-world use case. Our team is well-versed in the capabilities of MobiusFlow and has a good constructive relationship with their development team. We’ve produced several IoT solutions for clients, most notably in the aviation and smart home industries where we created system integration, data management, and data presentation solutions. We find IoT solutions feature unique technology opportunities that fit very well into our expertise. The large amounts of data produced by IoT technology lead to solutions such as real-time dashboarding and machine learning solutions, both of which we are very accustomed to and enjoy building for clients.
What is the most challenging aspect of integrating with IoT technology?
As a system integrator, we’re well-versed in managing and bringing software solutions together. There aren’t many software systems out there that we cannot integrate into a solution, either through APIs or custom components. However, we find the most difficult part of IoT solutions is integrating and managing many diverse types of IoT devices. This can be a huge problem if the IoT solution’s ecosystem features a very comprehensive and diverse set of sensors, which is why we like working with MobiusFlow and their platform. MobiusFlow simplifies the interaction and management of IoT devices and narrows down the amount of individual device integration, making our job so much easier. After all, it’s a lot easier to integrate with MobiusFlow than the various individual APIs of each of the IoT devices.
Where do you see IoT Technology heading?
It’s a great time for IoT technology with a lot of amazing things going on. We’re excited about how much more available IoT technology is to everyone now. Part of Intrepid’s Vision is to ensure technology can be leveraged by everyone and it’s great to see more groups having access to IoT Technology. IoT solutions in the past have proved to be very niche, complex, and unattainable to many. Thanks to platforms like MobiusFlow, IoT solutions are a lot easier to put together, and coupled with the technologies getting cheaper, more and more companies can start leveraging IoT in new and creative ways.
We’re also excited (like everyone else!) about how artificial intelligence can be applied to IoT technology. IoT solutions produce a lot of data that could be used to train a multitude of different AI models. Our team has produced a few solutions for predictive AI use cases and we see a natural fit for IoT Technology. Access to data is a key component of building useful AI solutions and IoT technology brings real-world data directly to machine learning models. We envision several use cases to produce AI-generated insights powered by IoT data that could be leveraged for more informed decision-making and strategising.
